Long-Time-Coming Debut Album Meets Expectations and More
In late 2023 we got our first new music released from UK indie rockers The Hubbards since 2020’s “Press Hard” single, as the band which had appeared on a bit of hiatus came right back out of nowhere and picked up where they left off.
The first single “Going Home” teased the upcoming album, Drip-Fed now released by Scruff of the Neck Records in March 2024, “Going Home” acting as the opening track for the album that also sports the aforementioned “Press Hard” as well as other singles “Just Touch” and “Good When I’m Done” also released prior to the early 2020’s quiet period from the group.
Other lead singles released include the energetic, anthemic “Spot Me, I’m Clean” – certainly a standout on a densely packed album of 9 quality songs in just 31 minutes – and “Hiding & Reading” another exemplary track showcasing the band’s penchant for accessible and tight indie pop melodies mixed with sharp, acerbic, pointed, clever lyrics.
“Chopper Baby,” the 4th listed song on Drip-Fed is another highly repeatable listen, hooky and compact, and another welcome, presumably recently recorded song not released prior to the full album’s debut.
The talent of this group is undeniable and a solid online and local following for The Hubbards should be a good sign of hopeful success in the future for the band, despite the ultra-competitive and saturated market for indie-produced music today – The Hubbards still stand out amongst the ever-growing crowd.
The Hubbards will be playing some dates live across the UK throughout April in support of the album, dates are listed and tickets available here: https://thehubbardsband.com/pages/live
